Whether you find yourself in job transition intentionally or unintentionally, the process of finding new employment is one of the most critical skill sets that you’ve probably hardly ever used. Indeed, the most successful professionals can struggle the most in the midst of job transitions. Yet these professional life changes offer high-stakes opportunities to remake your career into one that bring meaning, fulfillment, and personal growth.
Even if you simply want to change jobs, most clients benefit from engaging in some career assessment activities in order to differentiate themselves in the job search process (see Career Assessment & Planning).
Our process incorporates the use of The Five O’Clock Club job search methodology and books by Kate Wendleton, as well as occasional use of executive coaching tools to overcome inner obstacles as necessary. If you have been laid off, contact us for assistance with negotiating employer-funded outplacement services through The Five O’Clock Club directly.
Job Transition Services
All clients receive full access to our exclusive Career Resources Library.
- Job Search Setup and Marketing
Clients who are ready for this service have already engaged in self-assessment exercises and created a career direction, or began working with us on Career Identity and Exploration. Coaches assist clients to create a job search framework using employer target markets, develop strategies to engage with working professionals, create and refine a resume, cover letter, networking letter, and LinkedIn profile, and practice a verbal value proposition. If necessary, career research resources are provided, along with training on how to conduct informational interviews.
Typical timing: 2-4 meetings
- Networking and Interviewing
Often combined with Job Search Setup and Marketing, clients for this service learn how to build and sustain professional relationships, what employers are looking for when interviewing candidates, how to turn past experiences into powerful stories, an interview preparation process to follow, and how to handle unexpected situations. A customized practice mock interview is conducted along with just-in-time coaching support for actual interviews, offer decisions and negotiations.
Typical timing: 2-3 meetings to prepare and practice; once job interviewing begins, just-in-time coaching meetings, phone conversations, and email questions are delivered in response to client needs.
- Resume Writing
Coaches at JWJ Consulting will review but not write your job search marketing materials. However we have carefully screened a select group of resume writers whom we trust to produce personalized resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles. Please inquire about a complimentary resume consultation and exclusive pricing for JWJ Consulting clients.
